Description
This video is about the topic of ‘social entrepreneurship’, who they are, how you can become one and what difference they make to society.
just in case you don’t know, a social entrepreneur is someone who recognises a social problem and uses entrepreneurial principles to organize, create, and manage a venture to make social change.
Whilst social entrepreneurs are most commonly associated with the voluntary and not-for-profit sectors, this need not necessarily be incompatible with making a profit.
This video show highlights the Bikeworks Community Cycle Centre in London.
It also talks about The Guinness Bring It To Life Awards, which offer 6 Development Awards, worth up to £15,000 and 13 Catalyst awards worth up to £2,200 to social entrepreneurs who want to develop a business idea that makes a positive difference on their local community.
The video is particularly pertinent as David Cameron has recently said that a ‘big society’ of community work and social enterprise could be one of their great legacies - giving power back to the local communities.
Applicants can apply for an award at http://www.unltd.org.uk/guinness-bring-it-to-life-awards/ from 27 May and the deadline for entries is 23 July.
